TB - 0006 B&D Ne Plus Ultra
Tenor Banjo EXC Fancy? Yup. This is one of the
later examples by Gretsch. The
tuning pegs have been replaced with gold Grover Imperials which work
very well. The black and gold
rim exudes elegance, Ornate and colorful engraved pearloid
blocks are set into the ebony
fingerboard. The resonator is
spectacular M.O.T.S. The peghead is adorned
with engraved pearloid and rhinestones galore. The crowning glory is the
carved heel which when examined
closely is a ferocious looking lions head.
Good hard shell case.

WM -0002 1973 J.R. Welch F-5
Mandolin VG Here's a good bluegrass mandolin from a Vancouver luthier.
Spruce top and flame maple back, sides and neck. Attractive and delicate
headstock inlay and gold tuning pegs. Its top, back, fingerboard,
headstock and f-holes are all bound. This is a very
loud mandolin with plenty of cutting power that plays comfortably. It
has been well played and has a sturdily repaired crunched spot on
the top near the end of the
fingerboard. Hard shell case.
Price: $1250.00 Now $1100.00
GM - 0017 1929 Gibson
F-5 Serial number 87367.
This instrument is documented in the F-5 Journal
and is in excellent condition. It is likely that this mandolin went back
to the Gibson factory in
the late forties where it probably was refinished. This is a rare "Fern"
configuration as only a few have the
horizontal Gibson script and the block
inlays in the fingerboard.
Here is the face and here's the
beautifully flamed back. The
neck shares this flamey maple.
Here's a more detailed shot
of the top and scroll.
It has all its original hardware including
bridge, pickguard, tailpiece, and
tuners. On the back seam
near the heel of the neck and near the end
peg at the bottom there are either finish cracks or the very beginnings of a seam
separation. There is no evidence of this on the inside of the back and
it poses no structural problem. It sounds as good or better than some Loars.
It has a powerful cutting mid range and high end to it similar to the
classic type of tone that only a few fine archtop guitars produce.
But it also has that woody 'Loar-like' low end. And it has VOLUME to spare.
It plays wonderfully with a very comfortable action. It has an original Loar period
rectangular hard shell case
in fair condition.
Price: $29,500.00 Now $27,500.00
It's going back up after Christmas ...
GM -00043 1958 Gibson F-12
VG++ If you need to plug in sometimes this could be
the perfect mandolin for you. It's a good sounding 50's F model with the
long neck and elevated fingerboard and it's got a bridge pickup installed that
sounds just like an acoustic mandolin when plugged into a decent amp.
An input jack is installed in
the side.
It's also a very comfortable player with good action, frets and neck angle.
Nice sunburst top and nice
birdseye maple on the back.
There's a ding on the back of the neck but you don't feel it when
playing. It has it's original gold Kluson tuning pegs. There's the typical
headstock repair of the scroll
and the typical missing (or discarded) pickguard and the tailpiece cover
has also departed somewhere along the way. Original rectangular brown
case with pink lining is in pretty good shape.

MF - 00037 1921 Martin 000-45
EXC A beautiful looking, playing and sounding
guitar. It was taken to Martin in 1936 where it received a gorgeous sunburst finish and a pickguard
and a belly bridge.
The neck was narrowed slightly perhaps at that time. Abalone trim
graces the back, top, and
sides. The detail at the
heel is typical of the incredible artistry of this guitar.
There have been a few repairs over the years but all done expertly. Original
hard shell case needs it's rear hinges repaired but is in pretty good
shape.
Price: $39,950.00 Now $37,500.00
MF - 00041 1957 Martin D-
28 Exc- This is a nice clean Brazilian Rosewood
classic 50's Martin with minimal
play wear on the top and some
center belt buckle rash on the
back. There's some play wear on the back of the neck.
It's got the sound that will please the
bluegrass guitarist and a fine action. Gold Martin script on the headstock and original tuning pegs with the 'G' shaft
slightly bent. Original hard shell case missing handle.

MF - 00035 1953 Martin D-28
EXC- A really nice one
with that classic bluegrass sound. Very pretty Brazilian rosewood back and sides.
Great original tuning pegs.
Brazilian rosewood headstock veneer with
gold Martin script. Nicely aged
spruce top with the typical "B String" crack just above the
pickguard and a couple of other repaired hairline cracks that do not
detract in the least from either the sound or the look of this baby.
They're quite hard to see but you can try on this very large detailed
picture of the face. The
neck was reset probably a couple of decades ago. It has a comfortable
bluegrass action now. Black 60's Martin hardshell case.
Price: $6750.00 Now $6250.00
TG - 00015 1965 Martin 018 T
Tenor Guitar VG This 35 year old guitar's spruce top has aged so that it
looks like it's a pre-war model. Mahogany back and sides and neck. Gold Martin script on
the headstock and original
Grover tuning pegs. This is
a well played very strong sounding tenor with a few repairs; a top
crack, re-glued bridge, a few dings here and there and replaced bridge pins.
The action is 4/16"
at the 12th fret on the bass side and 3/16" on the treble. No case.
